Orange County — April 12, 2018 — Last night, members of the Orange County Young Democrats (OCYD) made their voices heard and endorsed candidates for the upcoming June primary. Over 200 members voted in the endorsement process.

“Young Democrats are troubled about the state of the county and our country,” said Danielle Serbin, Chair of OCYD. “We believe that our endorsed candidates will make a meaningful difference once elected, and our organization will certainly hold them accountable.”  She added that the endorsement carries with it the grassroots, boots-on-the-ground assistance that candidates need in order to get elected. “We are ready to act. Phone banking, knocking on doors, registering voters – members are excited to get involved and unite behind our endorsed candidates. We’re confident that with the activism of our members and other citizens in Orange County, a Blue Wave will sweep Orange County this fall.”

OCYD is pleased to announce its endorsement of the following candidates:

Sam Jammal for California Congressional District 39

Brian Forde for California Congressional District 45

Omar Siddiqui for California Congressional District 48

Sara Jacobs for California Congressional District 49

Mary Navarro for Board of Education, District 5

Brendon Perkins for Board of Supervisors, District 2

Joe Kerr for Board of Supervisors, District 4

Nathaniel Fernandez Epstein for County Assessor

Brett Murdock for Orange County District Attorney

Melissa Fazli for 55th State Assembly District

Scott Rhinehart for 73rd State Assembly District

Cottie Petrie-Norris for 74th State Assembly District

OCYD is also excited that, for the first time in its history, the organization used Ranked-Choice Voting in its endorsement process.  “Ranked-Choice Voting is the future,” said Avelino Valencia III, OCYD’s Political Director. “The process allowed members to rank the candidates in order of their preference. We then calculated which candidates had the largest consensus. This ensured we endorsed candidates who truly reflected our members’ preferences, and who will be able to draw support from the entire organization.”
